Nizanda, Oaxaca At least 13 people were killed and 98 injured after an Interoceánico passenger train derailed near the community of Nizanda in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, authorities said.

The train, traveling the Salina Cruz–Coatzacoalcos route, jumped the tracks and overturned several cars, triggering scenes of panic among more than 200 passengers on board. Emergency responders rushed to the site, where rescue operations were still ongoing hours after the crash.

The cause of the derailment has not yet been confirmed. Federal and state authorities have launched an investigation, while medical teams continue to treat the injured at nearby hospitals.
The Interoceánico corridor is a key transportation link connecting the Pacific and Gulf coasts and has been promoted as a strategic infrastructure project for southern Mexico.
