Tech giant Amazon has unveiled a new pair of artificial intelligence-powered smart glasses designed to assist its delivery workers, marking another step in the company’s ongoing effort to integrate advanced technology into its logistics operations.
Announced on Wednesday, the innovation is currently undergoing testing in North America, where Amazon delivery staff are using the glasses to simplify their daily tasks and improve efficiency.
According to the company, the AI-enabled eyewear will allow drivers to access real-time delivery information, route directions, and package data all without checking their phones. Instead, key information will appear directly on the glasses’ smart display.
The smart glasses integrate AI sensors, cameras, and computer vision technology to analyze surroundings and deliver precise information about each delivery stop. Once a package is dropped off, the glasses automatically record proof of delivery, eliminating the need for manual phone input.
For drivers navigating complex neighborhoods or rural areas, the device provides optimized routes and step-by-step guidance to ensure quick and accurate deliveries.
Each pair of glasses will be connected to a wearable companion device equipped with a secondary battery pack and an emergency alert button. The alert feature can be activated in case of unexpected incidents during deliveries.
The glasses also include adaptive light control, allowing them to function effectively in both daytime and nighttime conditions by automatically adjusting to environmental lighting.
Currently in pilot phase, the system is expected to undergo further improvements before a potential global rollout.
Amazon emphasized that the technology could soon detect and report delivery errors in real time, helping reduce misplaced packages and improve customer satisfaction.
The introduction of AI-powered glasses reflects Amazon’s broader strategy to enhance automation and safety across its workforce, combining wearable technology with machine learning to redefine the future of last-mile delivery.
