KIGALI, December 20, 2025 – The City of Kigali will temporarily hand over its roads to cyclists this Saturday as thousands of riders take part in the highly anticipated “Social Ride.” The event, which combines a morning training session and an afternoon community ride, is expected to draw wide participation and highlight the capital’s growing cycling culture.
According to organizers, several major roads will be closed during the day to ensure safety. Motorists have been urged to seek alternative routes and expect delays along affected corridors.

The morning session, from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM, will take cyclists from BK Arena through Kimironko, Rwahama, and Chez Lando before heading south via Sonatube and Nyanza to Gahanga. The return route will pass through Rwandex, Mu Kanogo, and the city center, with the finish at the Kigali Convention Centre (KCC).
The afternoon ride, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, will feature a closed loop around Nyarutarama and Kimihurura. Riders will start and end at KCC, moving past Gishushu, MTN Nyarutarama, the golf course, SOS Children’s Villages, Minagri offices, and RIB Kimihurura before returning via Mediheal and Kwa Mignonne.

Authorities say traffic police will be on site to guide motorists and manage flow. Residents living along the routes are encouraged to plan their travel outside closure hours.
The “Social Ride” has steadily grown into a signature event on Kigali’s fitness calendar, underscoring the city’s ambition to promote healthy living, community engagement, and active transport.
