The city of Kigali has embarked on a project of rebuilding the major roads at Remera due to the traffic and trouble in transportation. The roads are reported to be incapable of handling the number of vehicles that pass through that road, leading to a lot of traffic as an inconvenience.

The city Engineer Jean Bosco Mugisha, the project manager, noted that he construction will also include a dedicated lane for public buses to encourage mass transport use.
“We want to promote safety and efficiency while decreasing travel time.” This is not just a “road project, it is an investment in Kigali’s future movement…” he said.
Some motorcycle riders and taxi drivers mentioned that it will be a great project because of how they are usually affected by the traffic caused by many vehicles driving on a small road within the Remera road being rebuilt.

However, the construction required the demolition of some old houses and shops that were built too close to the road. This has brought some mixed reactions from citizens.
Some claimed that development is good, but they were surprised by the project, which made some lose their homes.
A shop owner named Clarisse Uwimana in Remera said, “I used to spend more than an hour in traffic. I’m really excited to see this road finished. At first, I was worried when they said my shop would be removed, but I realized that the project would help the whole community; The new road will bring more customers”. She claimed.
This project is scheduled for completion, mid 2026 with temporary diversions currently in process to allow smooth progress.
